Hi All,

Unsurprising after recent heavy rainfall events, but beaches around Dublin Bay are closed for swimming and, if you value your health, kayaking.

The orange colour is an algal bloom not sewage unless you've been drinking too much Tango. I dont expect our Wed paddlers to end up swimming off any beaches either. However, if you do choose to swim ...while they may look like Snickers as they float past and may even have a peanut in every bite should you choose to check, they are most definitely not Snickers.

Yes, the orange stuff is an algal bloom, brought on by the nutrients dumped into the bay in the form of sewage. These can be toxic in themselves, bringing all kinds of unpleasant outcomes if ingested by humans or animals. While those on the club meet might not find themselves swimming there, some members might have other plans for themselves and their dogs that might be scuppered by this event.
