The Curlew for many would be a familiar if evermore rare sight on the Irish Coastline
normally during the Late Autumn & Winter on coastal wetlands.
Unfortunately it's numbers are in decline and today has been launched as World Curlew Day.
Also as this is Springtime and many coastal birds are busy nesting
please be careful to observe a reasonable distance from their nesting sites
whether on ground, remote beaches or sea cliffs.
Despite a Sea Kayaks unobtrusiveness in the environment - causing nesting birds to take flight can leave their nests exposed to predator birds such as the Gt. Black Back, Bonxie and others. So do try to stay at a distance when possible to avoid spooking the birds. (Impossible sometimes I know..)
